SAFE AND CLEAN DRINKING WATER

CLEAN-DRINKING-Water

The water is an important one for a society in its arduous climb up the ladder of civilization. It is certain, however, that without water there would be no life of any kind on the earth and that, without water readily available in adequate quantity and free of pathogenic organisms, man’s progress is tremendously hindered.

Thousands have lived without LOVE but not without WATER

Since all biological life is dependent on water, it must be obtained at intervals by all plants and animals, so that life develops around this need. Men built most of their early communities near the watercourses which served their economic, social, and physiological requirements.

The history of public health is filled with both tragic and glorious milestones in which water was the important factor. Although no actual count is possible, billions of man-days of labour are undoubtedly lost annually because of illness and death from water-borne diseases.

It is difficult to imagine any clean and sanitary environment without water. Invariably, the progress of sanitation throughout the world has been closely associated with the availability of water; and, the larger the quantity and the better the quality of the water, the more rapid and extensive has been the advance of public health.

not-without-WATER

Women and children, especially those living in rural areas, are disproportionately affected. Rural women can spend hours every day collecting and carting water, either from communal taps or directly from streams and rivers. Long cartage distances pose particular difficulties for elderly people and those with disabilities. Poor communities are often unable to afford the costs of maintaining pumps and bore holes, or lack the skills to do so.

WRC aims to provide a safe and reliable water source that will unlock potential by providing time to work and study. The DRINKING WATER project WRC plan has evolved as a result of experiences and information collected from various villages and tribal areas & many parts of the country.

They are based on the firm conviction that:

  • In most small towns and villages in rural areas, more health benefits can be gained from money spent on a water-supply programme than in any other way
  • There will be little public health benefit from a water supply which does not provide water in adequate quantity and quality and in a way convenient to the population
  • The public health department is the key element in the water programme
  • Health administrations, Private bodies and Social organisations should take an active interest and play an important role in the promotion, execution, and management of rural water- supply systems.
  • WRC will request, support and co-ordinate the concern department of public health administration as they are the most logical agency to take the lead in promoting this programmes effectively.
  • Since an adequate and safe water-supply is a basic requirement of a healthy environment we identify few other investments of effort which will repay as much in health benefits as rural water-supply programmes
  • The provision of safe water is one of the principal environmental control measures against the transmission of most diarrhoea diseases, which often constitute the major public-health problem in rural areas.
  • The promotion of rural water-supplies depends to a large extent on community action. Health agencies are usually experienced and equipped to foster such action and participation by the people.

It is proven that without adequate supplies and management of fresh water sources, sustainable development simply cannot take place. WRC plan to provide drinking Water Bore Wells in all the needy community in rural areas in the state of TAMIL NADU, in INDIA.

OBJECTIVES AND CONCEPTS

The objectives of any water-supply system are:

  • To supply safe and wholesome water to the users, whether these constitute a family, a group of families, or a community

OBJECTIVES-AND-CONCEPTS_result

  • To ensure availability of drinking water 24/7 and supply water in adequate quantity
  • To make water readily available to the users, in order to encourage personal and household hygiene.
  • Ensure drinking water availability at all the needy villages in the state of TAMIL NADU.

The description of the proposed activities includes:

  • Identification of ground water availability at villages
  • Accomplishment of bore well and establishment of solar energy motor pump in bore well
  • The construction of overhead tanks and connecting the tank into household water and street connections
  • To ensure the availability of SAFE & CLEAN water to avoid usage of collected water is causing water-borne diseases. Diseases due to contamination of drinking water constitute a major burden on health. Improvement in the quality of drinking water will significantly benefit the health and wellbeing of people.
  • There are many communities where the bore wells provided by the Government are damaged and need repair and deepening to draw water. In these areas the rural households have no access to piped water schemes to meet drinking and domestic water needs. Therefore, the organization is focus towards providing safe drinking water to the maximum extent possible in its target villages.
  • We form a committee and the training will be given to members of each community in capacity building and awareness on Water and Sanitation to handle the water infrastructure in proper way.
  • The project has long term benefit that the maintenance and repair of the Water system is managed by the community itself. The Project is aligned with sanitation and hygiene. The community people will get awareness on sanitation.

We, WRC strongly believes in PURITY IS NOT A LUXURY, BUT A NECESSITY
