Increase The Knowledge Of The Children And Not The Degrees

India is a huge country and there have emerged many geniuses from our country. And this is a country where people send children to school at any cost. But did you know that India is the second least educated country in Asia. And it is only second to Afghanistan.

Even the people who enroll in the school does not get quality education. In many rural areas, the quality of education is so low that, a fifth standard boy cannot read properly. The schools have a single teacher teaching all the subjects. Students from various standards are sat together and provided with the same level of education. This will bring down the toppers and the slow learners. As they say, we are comparing the ability of a hare to run with that of an elephants. It’s different and can’t be compared.

The learning method is also more of mug up and vomiting rather than conceptual. Children learn things without understanding it. That only gets them marks not knowledge. Because of which children don’t apply it to the real life. Which is actually the purpose of education. We can recover all these with a few steps.

  1. Give a strong base to the child. Ensuring that each and everyone of them has the basics right. It must be done individually.
  2. Identify the child’s interest and teach them that. Guide them towards their passion rather than dumping it all on them. Give them extra classes on their interested fields. A doctor does not have to be good in social science.
  3. Train the teachers before training the students. Because only a good teacher can educate properly.
  4. Reduce the teacher to student ratio. A teacher must not handle more than 20 students.
  5. Teach the children with experiments to help them grasp the concepts correctly.
  6. Introduce technologies like computers, equipments, etc. So that they have wider knowledge.
  7. Teach real life skills more than anything. Teaching them communication skills, teamwork, problem solving, task organization skills. Because these are the things that students suffer with the most in real life.

All the above are slowly implemented in private schools and international schools. However not everybody can afford that. It is very important to raise the standards of the government schools too. Even though Nirmala Sitharamam has increased the budget for education, it is still not enough.
